Fire & Ice

After a day on the slopes with skis and boards, Team Alpine decided to conquer the slopes in a new way- Sledging! (Not to be confused with sledding)  This exhilarating leisure activity is a great way to exercise all while laughing at your friends and scaring the b’jesus out of you.

Sledging almost down to Grindelwald, then back up for a race down back to Wengen, Team Alpine survived the not so beginner (crash) course by laughing all the way down. Last one buys a round of schnapps.

Upon our return, we were surprised by our host and new Wengen best friend Oliver, when he informed us of a special treat. Our dinner this evening was off the grid, in a rustic lumberjack cabin.

On the way up, we encountered a local farmer who was just finished milking his cows. The cows here eat only the freshest local grass and herbs that ultimately produce the finest milk around.
While most sampled the warm unpasteurized, the homemade schnapps was preferred.

Again, as you can see, the Swiss really know how to eat.
On the torchlight return back to Wengen, we were warmed by some of the best… Continue reading

Between Heaven & Earth

Team Alpine hopped on the train for a beautiful and easy train ride up to the Jungfrau region. Passing through Interlaken and up to Wengan, the Swiss Rail is the cream of the crop when it comes to train travel.

The quaint village of Wengen is a perfect central location for skiing, mountaineering, and of course high alpine cuisine.

Once on top, Team Alpine made some turns and then trained up to the famous Jungfraujoch. The tunnel, taking over 16 years to complete, takes travelers up to the Top of Europe and offers views like no other.  You might have recognized this iconic station from many films.

We were surprised when we were taken into a private ice bar for more history and a toast with local bubbles.  This room is carved into a glassier that is consistently in flux.

Come Up to Slow Down

Team Alpine headed up the hill to explore Gstaad Mountain Ride’s motto: Come up to Slow Down. Gstaad Mountain Rides is one of the safest and largest areas for skiing in Switzerland. The Bernese Oberland’s only glacier ski area is suitable for winter sports from mid-October to early May.

From terrain that connects small villages, to one of the world’s only Igloo bars, this Swiss gem is one of a kind. Our favorites were The Horney Bar, named after horned mountain goats (supposedly), and the Nutella Crepes!
It is never to early to start planning your adventure for next year; especially since most of these amazing adventures sell out quickly. Contact an experienced Team Alpine member, and don’t leave your vacation to chance with some dotcom. Our specialist can create and suggest destinations that will create memories that will last a lifetime.

Touch The Sky!

Team Alpine headed up into the heavens to touch the sky and take in one of the best views of the Alps. The Glacier 3000 is one of Gstaad’s many options for skiing, dining, and hiking.
From up here, you can ski longer in the season that most places in Europe due to the frozen glacier and high altitude that keeps the snow cold. And in the summer, test your inner thrill seeker on the Alps highest coaster.
Not to fret if you are not a skier, the Glacier 3000 has restaurants that showcase unparalleled views of the Alps, all while offering some of the best Swiss cuisine around. Of course, the fondue is one of our favorites.
The Swiss really know how to summit. Once at the top, enjoy the views with wines and delicious food, all fresh from the local farms, dairies, and vineyards.

The first person who can tell us what the rock formation, or story of the monolith behind Dave, will win the famous 2011 Limited Edition Alpine Koozie!

Is this place real?

Arrival at Gstaad Palace is nothing short of breathtaking.  As we discovered the resort, all of us were silent with amazement. As you can see, the alpenglow was the perfect setting for the castle towers that cap the penthouse. From the rooftop, you can view the quaint valley that is home to Gstaad, or simply enjoy a heavenly hot tub in the stars.  More to come on this Grand Dame of Gstaad; in the meantime, enjoy a brief movie on Gstaad Palace, and be the first person who can reply to the post with three facts or three former famous guest and we will send you a limited edition 2011 Alpine Koozie!
