BEST OF SUNNY PORTUGAL 2022

Itinerary

DAY 1. PORTO

Arrival at Porto airport and transfer to the hotel. Welcome drink at the hotel. And free time. Dinner in local restaurant/local house wine. Over-night in Porto.

DAY 2. PORTO

Breakfast at the hotel. With a magnificent location near the mouth of the Douro and an architectonic ensemble of exceptional value, the historic centre of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the 12th century Cathedral (visit to the cloisters is not included), the Church of São Francisco (whose interior is covered with gold) is one of the most remarkable examples of Portuguese Baroque. Also discover other important places, such as the Lello Bookstore, the Majestic Café and the magnificent São Bento Station. Free time for lunch. We then continue heading for the Serralves Park which extends from the House of Serralves on 18 hectares including gardens, forests, a rose garden and a romantic lake which are a reak refuge for those who want to a short escape from the city. The day ends with a 50 minutes boat trip on the Douro river and a visit to a Port Wine Cellar to taste 5 superior wines along with cheese & cured dried sausage. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 3. PORTO | COIMBRA | TOMAR | ÉVORA

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. We descend to Coimbra, the city of students, so called to host one the first universities in Europe and the largest in the country. Stroll in the oldest part of Coimbra, made of narrow and steep streets that lead to the top of the hill. Continue to Tomar, a templar town with Convento de Cristo (exterior). Spend some free time before departing to Évora. Overnight in Évora


DAY 4. ÉVORA

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit of Évora, a World Heritage Site: bright surrounded by ramparts, it houses a superb monumental complex including the Roman Temple of Diana, the imposing Cathedral, the Church of São Francisco and its mysterious Chapel of Bones (entrance). We will also visit a cork house, to find out a bit more of this beautiful art, how it’s made and what are the products. Then, it’s time to have a wonderful picnic lunch in a local winery. Rest of day free. Overnight.

DAY 5. ÉVORA | BEJA | ALBUFEIRA | PORTIMÃO

Continuation to Beja, capital of the region of Lower Alentejo known by its former convent of Our Lady of Conception where lived Mariana Al-coforado, nun who wrote the “Lettres Portugaises” to Noel Chamilly, Count of Saint-Light when he returned to France, after his campaign as a soldier in Alentejo. Arrive in Algarve. First stop will be in Albufeira for some free time to shopping. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Porti-mão.

DAY 6. PORTIMÃO | LAGOS | SAGRES | PORTIMÃO

Breakfast at the hotel. Full day discovery of the western Algarve region: Portimão located on the bank of the Arade with its narrow streets where you can enjoy typical houses facades and friezes of azulejos, iron balconies and faience balustrades. Next is Lagos, the city where the caravels loaded with gold, ivory and slaves arrived. In 1578, starting point of the Portuguese fleet, commanded by Dom Sebastião, for the con-quest of Alcazarquibir, it became a famous seaside resort. Sagres promontory known for its fortress (overview). Return to Portimão. Dinner and accommodation in the hotel.

DAY 7. PORTIMÃO | AZEITÃO | LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel and. We continue north to Lisbon with a stop in Azeitão, a charming agricultural village known for red wine, olive trees and beautiful country estates. Spend time at the centuries-old Jose Maria da Fonseca Winery. Embark on a tour followed by a tasting of local wines, including muscatel. Arrival in Lisbon and overnight.

DAY 8. LISBON | SINTRA | CASCAIS | ESTORIL | LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Sintra, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site. Discover the charms and history of the town that enchanted kings and poets. Visit to Sintra’s Royal Palace. If the weather allows, we will stop at the western point of mainland Europe, Cabo da Roca. On the way to Cascais along the coast, be dazzled by the seascape. In Estoril, place where Ian Fleming got the idea for the James Bond movies, we highlight the gardens of the Casino. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Lisbon

DAY 9. LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure do the district of Castelo on a convenient TukTuk ride towards the Castle of São Jorge, located on the highest hill of Lisbon, one of the most emblematic monuments of the capital. Then we will descend the old district of Alfama, known by its white houses, labyrinthine streets, inner courtyards and dead ends. Free time for lunch. We leave for Belém, where monuments referring to the Maritime Discovery era in the 15th and 16th centuries were built, such as the Belém tower, the Monument to the Discoveries and the Jerónimos Monas-tery. Rest of day free. This night you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner. Overnight in Lisbon

DAY 10. LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel and free time until transfer to Lisbon airport. End of our services.
