Hotel Termas de Chillan

On the sunny side of the Andean Mountain range where snow from currents off the Pacific Ocean ensures an extended ski season, the hotel nestles in the heart of Termas de Chillán, famous for its soothing thermal hot springs from which it takes its name. This is the largest, most varied skiable terrain in the country, with above-treeline powder bowls, natural half pipes, off-piste trails and South America’s longest ski run, the 13 kilometer (8 mile) Las Tres Marias.

Between the forest and The Mountain, these 109 serene rooms were thoughtfully redesigned to provide the utmost peace and absolute comfort during your stay. Nature itself gives each of these private sanctuaries a uniquely rustic yet sophisticated style, while keeping you cozy and relaxed.

The nobility of nature inspires our entirely refreshed guestrooms.

Nevados de Chillan

Located in Chile’s southern region, Nevados de Chillan ski area is spread across the skirt of an active volcano Chillan and is one of the few resorts in Chile with tree skiing and hot springs. The resort enjoys some of Chile’s best snow conditions with an average snowfall of 25 ft and a diverse spread of terrain offering something for all ability levels. Nevados de Chillan in Chile is great for beginners and intermediates, but the feature of this ski resort is the interesting off-piste terrain that’s come about from a history of rivers of lava flow (none of them recently). Nevados de Chillan is renowned for its great backcountry ski touring opportunities, and the resort also offers cat skiing and heli-skiing.

Nevados de Chillan is a bit more off the radar compared to Portillo and Valle Nevado so it is rare to find long lift lines and tons of skiers tracking out the resort. Unlike Portillo and Valle Nevado, Nevados de Chillan offers tree skiing (when the snow conditions are very good). The unique feature of this resort is its natural outdoor thermal pools and one of the largest spa centers. The resort is also the only ski center in Chile that has a neighboring town, Las Trancas with more of a local’s vibe and plenty of entertaining restaurants and bars. Expert terrain around the volcano is endless. While most of the resort lacks the super steeps found in Portillo Resort to the north, most of the area is un-groomed with countless options for off-piste and backcountry exploring. It also has the longest ski run in South America (8 miles and it’s called Tres Marias), and is the only one with direct access to the thermal pools.

The off-piste and backcountry terrain is the real highlight here. You can ski tour here for days, exploring nearby valleys, summiting the volcanoes, ski some serious verticals and at the end of the day, soak in at the natural hot springs.

And don’t forget what Warren Miller has always told you “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll only be one year older when you do.” …don’t make it two.
