Lucerne is best known for the wooden bridge spanning the river to connect the city. The most famous and Europe’s oldest one is the Chapel Bridge dating back to the 14th century. This pedestrian bridge is decorated with pictures representing Lucerne’s history.

Lucerne Ice Magic

Experience the magic of Lucerne Ice Magic under the KKL roof! The Europaplatz ice rink offers 500m² of artificial ice for skating, curling, and gliding fun for all ages. The beautifully lit rink is free to use, with skates and support aids for kids available on-site.
Indulge in elegant fondue at our charming chalet, featuring Fondue Chinoise with various meats and vegan options, homemade sauces, fresh vegetables, and Lucerne sourdough bread. Enjoy hot and cold drinks at the chalet bar, along with sweet treats and meat platters. The chalet, accommodating up to 120 people, is perfect for social gatherings and festive celebrations. Join us on the terrace with a direct view of the ice rink.

Lilu Light Festival

January 9 – 19, 2025
Lucerne will once again become a luminous meeting place at the Lilu Light Festival. Artists from all over the world will present the diverse and fascinating facets of light art. Visitors can discover creative light installations on an illuminated winter walk and experience an attractive supporting program with a light show for all the senses. The alleys, sights, and squares of the city of Lucerne will be creatively illuminated, making it a spectacular event not to be missed.

Carnival in Lucerne

February 27 – March 4, 2025
The fifth season of the year. The Lucerne Carnival is unique in its historical development and its wild variety of expression. Colourful costumes cross the bridges from all directions and on the Kornmarkt, old and young alike jump around, clap and dance to the various rhythms of the “Guggenmusigen”. There will be no rest until Ash Wednesday and the end of the carnival!
During the Lucerne Carnival, the city comes to life when colourfully costumed people populate the streets, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the numerous Guggenmusik bands. The spectacle is officially opened with the big bang at 5 a.m. on “Schmutzigen Donnerstag”. The fifth season ends on the following Wednesday.
