Valencia

BB and full day sightseeing program of Valencia. The city was founded in 138 BC by the Roman consul Decimus Callaicus. Valencian bankers had borrowed the capital for the voyage of Christopher Columbus, in 1492 to Queen Isabella. We will see the city center with its impressive mansions and monuments. We will also pass in front of the old Silk Exchange from 1482, the old city wall and the Cathedral. The interior visit of the cathedral is included. It was built on the remains of an ancient mosque. In addition, a cup made of agate is kept in the cathedral in a side chapel and is revered by the faithful as a holy chalice. It was said to have mystical powers of spiritual or material abundance, grace or eternal youth and stories of the grail were eventually grafted onto the goblet of the Bible. The Holy Chalice became the Holy Grail and vice versa. Also we will see the remarkable Central Market, the old bullfight ring. Lunch on your own and not included. In the afternoon visit to the Turia Basin and gardens and the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by the world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava. Impressive is the extravagant opera and music palace with four halls on 37,000 sq meters; The construction costs amounted to 300 million euros. The Opera House was opened on October 25th of 2006. Back to the hotel.

5/26/2022 – Thursday

Natural Park Albufera

BB and full day trip to the Natural Reserve of Albufera and later in the day to the Oceanarium.
Albufera is the largest lake in Spain and one of the most important wetlands in the entire Iberian Peninsula. A nature reserve of very great ecological importance, which is used by a unique waterfowl as a wintering site. Its rich waters explain the presence of fishermen and rice farmers since the beginning of time and this is how a delicious gastronomy was produced. You will enjoy a leisurely boat ride across a freshwater lagoon rich with birds and fish. The rice grown here is integral to paella, the famous Spanish dish that originated in Albufera. It is now time to learn how traditional paella is made during a visit to a local restaurant. Your guide will explain the recipe as you see how the paella is finished. This succulent rice and seafood (or meat) dish, thought of outside of Spain as that country’s national dish, actually originated right here in Albufera and is known inside of Spain as a Valencian specialty.
In the afternoon on the way back to Valencia visit the famous Oceanarium. Dinner on your own.

5/27/2022 – Friday

Next to the cathedral is the Almudaina (entrance included) Palace, which serves the King of Spain as a residence during his visits on the Balearic Islands. The old town of Palma is a stylistic mix of Spanish-Catalan and Arabic influences. It is known for its many narrow streets, some of which are connected to each other only by stairs. In Palma the Catalan painter Joan Miró lived and died. Also visit the old defensive walls Es Baluard with view to the harbor and the cathedral. From the Bellver Fortress (now entrance also included) you will have a beautiful overview over Palma. Free time for lunch and in the afternoon some free time before returning to the hotel. Dinner on your own.

Formentor – Pollensa – Binissalem

BB and excursion first to the north of the island, with its impressive cliffs and deep blue sea. The first goal of today is Formentor, which still belongs to the more than 90-kilometer-long mountain range of Serra de Tramuntana, reaching heights of over 1445 meters. The Serra de Tramuntana was named after the cold north and west winds of Tramuntana. We will cross the Cap de Formentor with impressive cliffs and where the highest point, Fumart, is about 384 meters above sea level. Walk along the Paseo de los Pinos in Pollensa and then early afternoon arrive in the wine-growing district Binissalem. Tapas lunch and wine tasting in the winery. Binissalem is the Mallorcan capital of wine. The wine from this region is the only wine of the island that is protected by the Designation of Origin “Denominación de Origen”. According to documents already in the 14th century a considerable amount of wine was pressed in this place. Back to the hotel. Dinner on your own.

Day at leisure or optional Soller & Valldemossa – Farewell Dinner

BB and BB full day free time or: Optional full day excursion to Soller and Valldemossa (not included in trip price, add $130.00 per person). The trip will begin with the Tren de Soller. The Ferrocarril de Sóller is a nostalgic little train from 1912, which goes through the mountains of the island into the Orange Valley and to Soller. The lively town owes its prosperity mainly to the intensification of orange cultivation in the early 20th century, to whose transport the narrow-gauge railway was originally built. The picturesquely situated village is surrounded by the imposing mountain ranges of Sofre with 1091 meters and the Puig Major with 1445 meters. The valley of Soller is the second largest fruit growing area of Mallorca and produces citrus fruits, figs and almonds. From the train station in Soller you can take the tram to Soller harbor. In the afternoon trip to the coast of Mallorca’s romantic scenic coastline to Valldemossa, one of perhaps the most beautiful and best-preserved mountain villages of the island. Already from a distance, we see the Carthusian monastery of La Cartuja, towering over the village, where the Polish composer Frederic Chopin and the French writer George Sand spent the winter of 1838-39. Visit the cells in the monastery, which at that time the couple has used, the ancient pharmacy with the beautiful Majolic vessel, the old print shop and the monastery church (entrance included). In the sumptuous palace of King Sancho you have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of some musical pieces by Frédéric Chopin. Back to the hotel.
In the evening a short transfer for all guests to the old city of Palma and visit to the unforgettable Bar Abaco where the guests enjoy a special cocktail with classic music. After the cocktail farewell dinner in the beautiful restaurant La Paloma. Transfer back to the hotel.
