SwissTainable Switzerland 2023

Untouched nature touches our hearts. As a travel destination, Switzerland is synonymous with spectacular mountains, wild gorges, and mystical forests. Nature has the power to provide energy. We aim to preserve this – for many generations to come.

Sustainable travel doesn’t necessarily mean having to go without. Sustainable travel means greater awareness and depth and more enjoyment. With this in mind, Switzerland follows its own sustainability strategy: Swisstainable.

Swisstainable is all about having one’s finger on the pulse – and maximum relaxation in a natural setting:

Enjoy nature up close and first-hand; Experience the local culture in an authentic way; Consume regional products; Stay for longer and delve deeper

The resort boasts the most modern lift system in the country and features a small-scale “village” that includes 3 hotels, a dozen condominium buildings, 6 restaurants, pubs and bars, a spa and fitness center, and retail shopping. Solden, Otztal Valley, Austria

The Sölden ski area ranks among the most renowned ski areas in the Alps. And with good reason thanks to its high Alpine altitude between 1350 and 3340 meters above sea level, two glacier Ski Mountains and top modern snow-making systems, there is reliable snow from October through May. Sölden is the largest ski resort in the Oetztal valley with an extensive network of slopes (145km) with an equally impressive lift system; more than 30 mountain huts in which to quench the thirst; and a lively après-ski scene in town.
Sölden’s peaks are so spectacular that the location was used to film portions of the James Bond movie Spectre. Enjoy breathtaking views from the summit, and the ski route from Schwarze Schneide at the Rettenbach Glacier down to Sölden is the region’s longest ski trail at 15km with nearly 2,000m change in altitude. There is a second glacier and dramatic viewing platforms from the top of the Mountain.
The town of Sölden’s main street is filled with buzzing bars, clubs, shops and restaurants. Five other ski resorts reside in the Oetztal Valley, including Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, Hochoetz-Kuehtai, Vent, Niederthai and Gries.

The 3* superior hotel Bäckelar Wirt

The 3* superior hotel Bäckelar Wirt in Sölden is THE playground for sports enthusiasts. Close to the mountains, bustling, with a sense for the contemporary. Enjoy the perfect fusion of a laid-back atmosphere and high standards – be it in the rooms and suites, in the wellness area, at the breakfast buffet or during a delicious multi-course dinner. Directly located at the Bikepark at the end of the trails and only about 100 meters from the Gaislachkogl cableway station, Bäckelar Wirt is a must for those who want to fly high. Hosts and guests live an active lifestyle, which can be sensed all over the place. Even in the rooms, where soft tones, cubic forms, no-frill design and wooden elements merge. Panoramic views included.

Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg is the fourth-largest city in Austria. The town is on the site of the Roman settlement of Iuvavum. Salzburg was founded in 696 and became a seat of the archbishop in 798. Its main sources of income were salt extraction, trade and gold-mining. The fortress of Hohensalzburg, one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe, dates from the 11th century. In the 17th century, Salzburg became a center of the Counter-Reformation, with monasteries and numerous Baroque churches built.
Salzburg’s historic center is renowned for its Baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city-centers north of the Alps. The historic center was enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The city has three universities and a large population of students. Tourists also visit Salzburg to tour the historic center and the scenic Alpine surroundings. Salzburg is also the birthplace of the 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who is considered one of the greatest composers of all time.
