Monday: Rhodes, Greece
Tuesday: Bodrum, Turkey
Wednesday: Dalyan River, Turkey
Thursday: Santorini, Greece
Friday: Hydra, Greece
Saturday: Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Athens
Athens is the historical capital of Europe, and the birthplace of democracy, arts, science and philosophy of western civilization. Home of Plato, Socrates, Pericles, Euripides, Sophocles, Aeschylus. Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities. It’s recorded history spanning around 3.400 years and it is being inhabited since the 11th millennium B.C. E. Today, under the shadow of Parthenon, the contemporary urban scenery of the sprawling city reflects its exciting history, and its multi- cultural modern personality.
Rhodes
Rhodes has a long and impressive history; it’s a place where the strong medieval aspect blends with the traditional Greek one. It is also an island with great natural beauty: the lovely beaches face the pine woods on the mountainsides; the mountain villages overlook the seaside towns; and the archaeological sites, the medieval monuments, and the cosmopolitan resorts arranged in the traditional style all conspire to make the popularity of this destination so hard to resist, even to a demanding traveler.
Bodrum
Turkey’s top resort, Bodrum, is more than the town of that name. The Bodrum Peninsula, extending west into the Aegean and bordering the Mediterranean, actually has a dozen resort towns and villages along its shores, of which famous Bodrum is but one. Each has its own beaches, hotels and other pleasures. Although Bodrum was Turkey’s original south Aegean seaside resort, and has the richest history on the peninsula with its crusader castle and Mausoleum, other villages—now grown to towns—are becoming almost as well-known.
The Dalyan
The Dalyan is part of the Turkish Riviera, some of the most beautiful coastal territory in the Mediterranean. Most famous for the breeding ground of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle at Itzuzu Beach, the shores of the Dalyan River provide access to several of Turkey’s historical sites. Near the fishing town of Dalyan visitors may find the ancient Carian city of Kaunos, while travelers on the river, navigating through the dense reeds, may view the Lycian tombs, carved directly into the cliffs over the river.
Santorini
Santorini, known since ancient times as Thira, is one of the most famous islands in the world. The fact that you can sit in front of the caldera, enjoy local dishes, a drink or a coffee while gazing at the remarkable beauty of an active volcano is priceless! The island is actually a group of islands consisting of Thira, Thirassia, Aspronissi, Palea and Nea Kameni in the southernmost part of the Cyclades.
Hydra
Hydra is a popular sailing destination. A rich naval tradition and a cosmopolitan island ambience are the defining characteristics of Hydra – a popular island in the Argosaronic Gulf – which attracts every year many personalities and jet-setters from Greece and abroad. This was the favourite destination and place of residence of painter Nikos Hatzikyriakos-Ghika, Leonard Cohen, and Henry Miller. It is also the birthplace of painter Panagiotis Tetsis, and of many other famous artists, writers etc. The island’s great beauty was appreciated also by celebrities such as Maria Callas, Pablo Picasso, and Sophia Loren.

Antarctica Express Air-Cruise
Your journey begins in Ushuaia, Argentina, at the pier. Board your ship in the afternoon and sail along the Beagle Channel towards Puerto Williams, Chile, the southernmost town in the world. Explore the surroundings before setting sail to Cape Horn.
After an overnight crossing of Nassau Bay, you awake in full view of legendary Cape Horn! Weather permitting, board a Zodiac, and be one of the few privileged adventurers to step foot on this famous and rarely visited island. Back on board, set sail towards Antarctica and cross the famous passage named in honor of Sir Francis Drake, the great 16th-century British explorer.
As you sail through the Drake Passage en route to King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands, attend an engaging program of lectures and presentations. In the company of expert guides, watch for wildlife from the lounge or from the outside decks. You may spot magnificent seabirds, such as albatrosses and petrels, as well as different species of whales on their way south to Antarctica.
After crossing the Antarctic Convergence, the environment changes noticeably. Keep your camera ready, as this is the time to watch for the first icebergs and the first sight of Antarctic land. Reaching the South Shetland Islands, sail in ice-filled bays while enjoying the company of seabirds, penguins, seals, and whales. Board a Zodiac for your first memorable shore visit to a penguin colony. Taking advantage of the endless Antarctic daylight, exploration will continue well into the evening.
Upon reaching King George Island, disembark at Fildes Bay. A 2-km (1.25-mi) walk takes you through Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen Station to the aircraft. Bid farewell to Antarctica as you board the flight back to Punta Arenas. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the night. (Note: Meals in Punta Arenas are at your leisure and not included in the program).

About 150 km from Cuba, an MSC cruise in the Caribbean and the Antilles is an opportunity to admire the crystal clear waters surrounding Key West, a strip of land just a few kilometers from Miami. The Spaniards nicknamed it “Island of Bones” because here the indigenous people buried their deceased love ones. Connected to the mainland by bridges, Key West is literally a paradise that offers a breathtaking panorama and stages an ancient culture and history. Enjoy the sunset at Mallory Square and get lost in Duval street, one of the liveliest streets of the city, with shops, clubs, and restaurants, and you won’t ever want to leave. It is no coincidence that the likes of Harry S. Truman, Tennessee Williams, and Ernest Hemingway decided to reside here.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the residence of Hemingway himself: An MSC excursion will take you inside the villa, now a museum, where the writer lived for about ten years. A dive into his life: the paintings, the typewriter, the kitchen and every corner that the writer shared with his second wife Pauline Pfeiffer. During his stay in Key West, Hemingway wrote his novel The Old Man and the Sea, winner of a Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize.
When in Key West, a visit to the sea is a must. With an MSC excursion, it is possible to see its depths, from the comfort of a glass-bottomed boat, built to admire the different varieties of colorful fish that populate the Atlantic Ocean.

The land of the swallows
A forty-kilometer-long island directly off the coast from Playa del Carmen, Isla Cozumel is a renowned cruise-ship call: nearly every day, up to ten cruise ships dock at one of the island’s three dedicated piers, all just south of the only town, San Miguel.
A holiday to Mexico with MSC Cruises will present you with restaurants, souvenir shops, and jewelry stores, all along the malecón (Av Rafael Melgar) in downtown San Miguel.
If you fancy a museum, the attractive Museo de la Isla de Cozumel has small displays of the flora, fauna and marine life of the island, as well as a good collection of Maya artifacts and old photos.
If you’re not a diver, there’s a certain appeal in wandering the relaxed inland blocks of San Miguel, away from the piers, spotting Maya ruins and birds (the Maya called the island cuzamil – “land of the swallows”) in the dense forests and being the only person on the windswept eastern beaches.
Midway across the island, San Gervasio is the only excavated Maya site on Cozumel. With several small temples connected by sacbeob, or long white roads, it was one of the many independent city-states that survived the fall of Chichén Itzá, flourishing between 1200 AD and 1650 AD. As part of a larger nature reserve, the site is worth a visit for the numerous birds and butterflies you can spot early in the morning or late in the day.

Mayan architecture along stunning beaches
Without a doubt, Progreso is a city that can satisfy your desire for the beach. Docking with your MSC cruise at the Caribbean and the Antilles, you will see a long and spacious coast, surrounded by the longest pier in Mexico, 4 miles, where you can find peace in a relaxed atmosphere.
Built in the nineteenth century as a seaport of Mérida, Progreso is located in the north-central part of Yucatàn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. It is purely a maritime city and a very important industrial centre, around which, only a short distance away, there are numerous archaeological sites dating back to the Mayan culture.
To explore this city’s history, an MSC excursion will take you to Chichén-Itzà, an important Mayan archaeological site which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site includes numerous buildings; what catches the most attention is the temple of Kukulkan, a stepped pyramid from the pre-Columbian era with stairways running along the four sides. The Temple of the Warriors is also very stunning; it consists of a large stepped pyramid with rows of carved columns, depicting warriors on the front and sides. Chichén-Itzà is characterized by the seven ball game fields. In particular the biggest one is adorned by bas-reliefs.

Island Hopping Cruise 2019
Overlooking the calm blue waters of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is one of the world’s most magnificent walled cities. Now a UNESCO world heritage site and Croatia’s most popular destination, it was once the capital of the maritime republic, The Republic of Ragusa (1358-1808).
The city walls, mostly a double line, have been a source of pride for Dubrovnik since the 16th century. Along its course and within its walls lie several towers and fortresses, as well as numerous historic monuments. And beyond the walls, many villas surrounded by pretty gardens. The Stradun, or main street features beautiful late-Renaissance houses on each side. Except for the Stradun, the old city is a maze of picturesque, steep, narrow streets that twist and turn.
It is Croatia’s greenest island with its Mediterranean vegetation, clear and clean sea, gentle sandy shoreline and a wealth of underwater sea life. The island is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the Croatian islands. Half Mljet island is a pristine national park. There are few residents, no large towns and only one major road. Mljet is well known for its white and red wine, olives and goat cheese. It is indeed a unspoilt island covered by a dense Mediterranean forest. The sea is rich in fish and marine life.
Korcula is best known as the birthplace of Marco Polo. The island is a little further away to get to so you have fewer crowds and can enjoy the island more! So lush with dark pine forests, vineyards and olive groves the ancient Greek settlers called it Korkyra Melaina (‘Black Corfu’), Korcula has managed to avoid the tourist trap tendencies of its original Greek namesake to the south.
Korcula town itself is a walled medieval town rising straight up out of the clear blue waters of the Adriatic, with a herringbone pattern of narrow streets and alleys. Korcula produces some good wines, in particular “Grk” and “Posip”, and one of Croatia’s best red wine producing areas, dingac, lies on the nearby Peljesac peninsula.
The island of Vis is a pearl among Croatian Adriatic islands, left untouched by the development of tourism for so many years. Vis has always been an island of fishermen and winegrowers. Komiza on the island of Vis is considered the cradle of fishing in the Adriatic, and in times gone by, the Komiza fishermen where well known in all Mediterranean harbours as experts in their field.
Hvar, a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, is best known as a summer resort. Highlights of the port town Hvar include its 13th-century walls, a hilltop fortress and a main square anchored by the Renaissance-era Hvar Cathedral. The island also features beaches such as Dubovica and inland lavender fields. Boat excursions serve the nearby Pakleni Islands, which have secluded beaches and coves. Hvar Island is known for its excellent climate. It enjoys no fewer than 2,800+ hours of sunshine each year. With warm summers and mild winters, rich culture, beautiful views overlooking the Adriatic Sea, it’s no wonder that Hvar Island attracts so many visitors.
Brac provides an excellent window into authentic island life, particularly in the interior. It has been inhabited since Neolithic times and has an extensive and fascinating history.
Bol is a small village that hosts a big, beautiful beach: Zlatni Rat. It is perhaps the best known and the most beautiful beach in Croatia.
With the rugged dalmatian mountains as a backdrop and the blue Adriatic Sea lapping its shores, Split is emerging as one of the must-see cities of Europe.
Come for the scenery and fall in love with the people who know how beautiful their city is and are proud to show it off.
It’s a magnificent blend of antiquity and modernity, with the relics of its time as part of the Roman Empire celebrated as much as the al fresco wining and dining that tourists expect.
With cascading waterfalls hidden among lush forest greenery, it’s easy to see why Croatia’s very own Garden of Eden regularly features in lists of the world’s most beautiful places. At the heart of the Plitvice Lakes National Park, 16 azure pools spill into each other, connected with rocky outcrops dripping in moss. A boardwalk curves sinuously between lakes, allowing visitors to drink in the arresting beauty of the Plitvice Lakes at very close quarters.
The Plitvice Lakes area has been a site of continuous human settlement since prehistory, and today, locals still inhabit small settlements scattered around the park.
Given the long human history of the area, myths and legends have, over time, sprung from each of the 16 lakes. One of the most popular myths is the tale of an ancient, magic queen who was responsible for the creation of the lakes.

Thailand’s capital is south-east Asia’s most enigmatic city, a head-on clash between tradition and modernity – an urban cornucopia of smells, tastes, sounds and sights that one is unlikely to forget. Created as the Thai capital in 1782 by the first monarch of the present Chakri dynasty, Bangkok is a national treasure house and Thailand’s spiritual, cultural, political, commercial, educational and diplomatic center. More than anywhere else in the country, Bangkok expresses Thailand’s uncanny ability to blend the old with the new. This lends a thrilling sense of discovery to one’s sightseeing and adds an element of surprise when exploring what is the Orient’s most fabled city. Ultimately it is from the people that Bangkok derives its unique flavor. Fun-loving and easy going, they possess a rare tolerance which imbues the city with a real sense of freedom.
Popularly known as the Rose of the North, Chiang Mai is blessed with stunning natural beauty and unique indigenous cultural identity. Founded by King Mengrai the Great as the capital of the Lanna Thai kingdom by merging the various city states in the region in 1296. Today Chiang Mai is the economic, communications, cultural and tourism centre of Northern Thailand.
About 700 kilometers from Bangkok, Chiang Mai is situated on the Mae Ping River basin some 310 meters above sea level. Surrounded by high mountain ranges, it covers an area of approximately 20,107 square kilometers. The terrain is mainly jungles and mountains, parts of which are within national parks which are still fertile and verdant with plentiful flora and fauna. There are many sites and locations where tourists prefer to visit to study the lifestyle of the tribal people who live on high hills.
The largest island in Thailand and is a province in itself. Phuket is a beautiful island with many great beaches, rocky capes, mountains and forested hills as well as lush farmlands incorporating crops such as rubber, pineapple and tapioca. Phuket is also a central point from which travelers may discover alternative but equally exciting destinations.
Phuket has a major International airport, hotels of all categories, excellent infrastructure, established international standard restaurants, small local eateries, shopping centers, excellent nightlife, marina, movie cinema and a wide choice of recreation activities.
Phi Phi Island is Thailand’s island-superstar. For some, it’s the only reason to touchdown in Phuket. Even with all the hype, it doesn’t disappoint. Phi Phi’s beauty is a large chunk of the allure. The islands, when approached by boat, rise from the sea like a fortress. Sheer cliffs tower overhead, then give way to beach-fronted jungle.
Phi Phi is a group of six islands. The two main islands are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. The larger and inhabited Phi Phi Don attracts hundreds of visitors to stay on its lovely shores while the smaller uninhabited Phi Phi Leh hosts stunningly beautiful bays and beaches, including the world-famous Maya Bay, which was the set where The Beach (with Leonardo Di Caprio) was filmed. Just a 45-minute speedboat trip or a 90-minute ferryboat ride from either Phuket or Krabi, these picture postcard islands offer the ultimate tropical getaway.
Phang Nga Bay lies between southern Thailand’s mainland and Phuket Island. Also known as Ao Phang Nga National Park, it’s characterized by limestone cliffs and rock formations, as well as mangrove forests and small islands. Among the islands are Koh Tapu, known as James Bond Island for its appearance in a Bond film. Koh Phanak Island is known for its caves and lagoons. The bay’s waters are dotted with coral reefs.
Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai are a pair of large islands in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, equidistant to Phuket and the Krabi mainland. While the pace of development is accelerating on Koh Yao Noi in particular, the islands remain a quiet refuge that feels far removed from the crowds of Phuket. It is a little slice of paradise that tends to attract a much smaller crowd than its neighbors. Koh Yao Noi (and neighboring Koh Yao Yai) is a relaxed, eco-minded island with far less tourism than the bustle of Phuket or the thumping party scene of Koh Phi Phi. It tends to cater to a higher end and sporty crowd and has maintained a peaceful elegance.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and it is located in central eastern Scotland, near the Firth of Forth, close to the North Sea. Thanks to its spectacular rocks, rustic buildings and a huge collection of medieval and classic architecture, including numerous stone decorations, it is often considered one of the most lively cities in Europe. Edinburgh is not only one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, it is a city with a fantastic position. The view falls on all sides – green hills, the hint of the blue sea, the silhouettes of the buildings and the red cliffs. It is a city that calls you to explore it by foot – narrow streets, passageways, stairs and hidden church yards on every step will pull you away from the main streets.
Elegantly arranged along the Tay, Perth is a pleasant city with large tracts of parkland surrounding an easily navigated center. A harbor city on Ireland’s west coast, sits where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. The city’s hub is 18th-century Eyre Square, a popular meeting spot surrounded by shops and traditional pubs that often offer live Irish folk music. Nearby, stone-clad cafes, boutiques and art galleries line the winding lanes of the Latin Quarter, which retains portions of the medieval city walls.

Courchevel
Courchevel is the access to the largest ski area in the world, Les 3 Vallées, with 372 miles of slopes, 7 connected resorts, 327 pistes, 186 lifts…this is an exceptional domain in every way.
It’s the combination of its premier location, and place in the world’s largest ski area ‘Three Vallées’, that makes Courchevel so special. Often overshadowed by its notoriety as the most exclusive destination in the Alps, Courchevel 1850 also deserves fame for its all-rounder excellence.
The town center exudes luxury from every corner with Michelin-starred restaurants, incredible 5* hotels and up-market boutiques in abundance.
The skiing is fantastic too. Many chalets and hotels here set new boundaries of opulence and are simply magnificent with first class service and “ski in, ski out” locations to match.
Celebrity spotting and designer labels aside, however, the pistes and terrain are great for all levels of skier from the absolute beginner to those seeking knee-deep powder fields. The town center lies at the bottom of a bowl surrounded by wide, green and blue pistes which are perfectly suited for novices.
The peaks of Chanrossa and Saulire provide spectacular views of the Three Valleys for intermediates and there are plenty of off-piste and alpine runs to keep even the keenest expert busy. With over 375 miles of pistes to choose from as well as some of the best accommodation available in the world, Courchevel 1850 is hard to beat.

Avoriaz 1800 is one of the most distinctive Alpine ski resorts you will probably ever visit thanks to its futuristic design and dramatic cliff top location overlooking the neighboring resort of Morzine. Situated in the center of the Portes du Soleil, it falls within the Chablais region of the Haute-Savoie, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc.
Avoriaz is a purpose built ski resort but unlike so many of the resorts that sprang up in the 60’s and 70’s it isn’t home to unsightly concrete monoliths but instead consists of wooden clad apartments and chalets that sympathetically blend into the surrounding mountains. The town is completely pedestrianized, everyone makes their way around either on foot, ski or on horse-drawn sleighs. Avoriaz caters especially well for families thanks to a range of specially designed children’s ski areas and a rather fabulous indoor waterpark. You will also find some of the best snowparks in the Alps in Avoriaz, and these along with regular live music events throughout the winter season attracts a young crowd.
Avoriaz is a true ski-in-ski-out resort and most of the accommodation in Avoriaz is in apartments or aparthotels. These aparthotels combine the benefits of renting a self-contained apartment, complete with living area and kitchen, and with the facilities you would expect to find in a hotel.
Avoriaz is located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the biggest transnational ski areas in the world, connecting 12 ski resorts between France and Switzerland (eight in France and four in Switzerland). Avoriaz provides a superb playground for all skiers, with 400 miles of slopes designed for all abilities. The high altitude of most of the pistes means that the snow quality is excellent and lasts right through to the end of April. Beginners will enjoy learning on this kind of snow, and the gentle, wide slopes are ideal for perfecting those first turns.
Avoriaz is fairly typical of a small ski resort, in that the restaurants are mostly Savoyard in style and offer the mountain classics like tartiflette, fondue and raclette. Through the center of town there are slope side restaurants with terraces where you can enjoy lunch with a view.
Try the Avoriaz experience and join us above the clouds.

Lake Annecy Ski Resorts is perfect for families and beginners, while La Clusaz itself offers more for intermediates and advanced skiers.
The four resorts are perfect for beginner skiers, with a particular accent on Le Grand Bornand, and the area as a whole is an ideal location to learn to ski or snowboard for a weekend on the cheap before you fully commit to a week’s ski holiday, which can be pricey. As far as nightlife is concerned, La Clusaz is the main attraction, while Le Grand Bornand, Manigod and St Jean de Sixt cater mostly for families and those who want a quiet dinner before bedtime.

Venice
Venice with its historic attractions and gorgeous canals is one of Italy’s most famous attractions.
Few cities can claim such a priceless art and history heritage as Venice. This unique city with its magical, spectacular scenery is not just beautiful; it is a real miracle of creative genius: a city built on mud, sand and the slime of a difficult, inhospitable landscape.
During centuries of feudalism and barbarism, Venice symbolised democracy and civilization.
What surprises about Venice, now as in the past, is its impressive building structure – a city built entirely on water. For centuries the Venetians, slowly and stubbornly insisted on recovering even the smallest bit of land from the water.
From the very start, building the city was a real engineering miracle due not only to the skill and intelligence of its builders but also to the nature of the place itself.

Milan
Milan, a metropolis in Italy’s northern Lombardy region, is a global capital of fashion and design.
Milan has been interesting and vibrant at least since it was the capital of the western half of the Roman Empire. It was one of the most glorious of the Italian Comuni during the Middle Ages. It housed one of Italy’s most spectacular courts during the Renaissance. And so on. Leonardo da Vinci came from Florence looking for work and ended up staying a long time and achieving quite a lot, like many others have done since. Having always been in the thick of things, Milan is gifted with an impressive part of Italy’s heritage: it is a great city of art.
Have a look at the imposing marble Duomo, at our churches, palaces and museums. You will also be delighted by contemporary art and architecture. Countless works of art are waiting for you, and nearly all of them are within walking distance.
While you visit, let the atmosphere of Italy’s most modern and advanced city seep in. You will be captured by the elegance and style; by the energy and the international flair. An incredible shopping experience for all tastes and pockets, in a place where design and fashion have made their home.

Munich
Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums.
Located at the river Isar in Southern Bavaria, it is famous for its beautiful architecture, fine culture, and the annual Oktoberfest beer festival. Munich has a thriving cultural scene and many travellers are absolutely stunned by the quality of the architecture. Although it was heavily damaged by Allied bombing during World War II, many of its historic buildings have been rebuilt and the city centre appears mostly as it did in the early 1900s, including its largest church, the Frauenkirche cathedral, and the famous City Hall.
Munich is a major international centre of business, engineering and research, exemplified by the presence of two research universities, several multinational companies, and world class technology and science museums like the Deutsches Museum and BMW Museum.
Munich has a continental climate, strongly modified by the city’s altitude and proximity to the northern edge of the Alps. This means that precipitation is high, and rainstorms can come violently and unexpectedly.

Garmisch is touted as one of Germany’s best ski resorts, and for those who have skied in the Western U.S., it’s certainly comparable. It offers skiers and snowboarders a little bit of everything, however the on-piste areas are best reserved for intermediates. Sestriere
Sestriere in Italy is the highest-altitude ski resort in the extensive Via Lattea (Milky Way) linked ski area, and boasts an impressive pedigree in Alpine winter-sports history as one of the world’s first purpose-built ski resorts.
Founded in the 1930s, Sestriere was one of the world’s very first purpose-designed ski resorts, created and largely financed under the original direction of Giovanni Agnelli, founder of the Fiat industrial empire, whose vision was to build a world-class ski resort within easy reach of his home city of Turin.
Nowadays a principal station of the huge Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski domain which straddles the Italian-French border and stretches across 400km of lift-linked pistes, Sestriere is still arguably this region’s most upmarket resort; it is also the most reliably snow-sure of all the resorts in the Milky Way, and it presents the strongest all-round resort choice for beginners and keen intermediates planning to visit this easily accessible and interesting corner of Italy.

Renowned for everything from wooded beginner runs to high-altitude skiing, variety is behind the enduring popularity of Les Arcs. Linked with La Plagne to create the Paradiski area, its varied villages offer access to 265 miles of piste for all abilities.
Les Arcs is a purpose-built ski resort, made up of a number of different villages, each at slightly different altitudes and each with their own character and ambience. It’s renowned as a family friendly resort, with a good selection of beginner and intermediate pistes, however, there is genuinely something for everyone. There are hundreds of miles of pistes, high-altitude beginner’s areas, huge swathes of off-piste, an internationally-renowned freestyle park and one of the longest continuous runs in Europe (the Aiguille Rouge being 5 miles long with 1.5 miles of descent). Since 2003, Les Arcs has been connected to La Plagne by the valley-spanning double-decker Vanoise Express gondola, creating the Paradiski ski domain, and providing adventurous skiers with access to 265 miles of pistes.
Situated in the heart of a 300-year-old Swiss stone pine forest, Les Arcs was the first resort of its kind in Europe. Arcs 1600 was the original village which opened up as a ski resort in 1968. The concept was very innovative at the time – accommodation built specifically for convenient skiing and doorstep access to the slopes, but it’s a concept that has since been replicated many times over, across the Alps and beyond. Today, Les Arcs is made up of four modern, purpose-built resorts: Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000, each offering direct access to the slopes. Each resort is largely pedestrianised and self-contained, and have their own bars, restaurants, supermarkets and a range of activities. You can take a shuttle bus (free with your lift pass, running every 20 minutes) between villages so you can easily enjoy the entertainments in each resort. There are also three outlying villages within the ski area – Plan Peisey, Vallandry and Peisey Nancroix. A big draw for families is the new entertainment complex Mille8 in Arcs 1800. It includes fun ski areas for all ages, dedicated snow play areas for small children and a swimming pool complex.

Pretty, charming and unspoiled, the old farming village Les Gets has something special to offer every visitor, with a variety of skiing to suit all levels, but where this magical resort truly excels is in the service that it provides to families.
Les Gets is an attractive, sunny village of traditional chalet-style buildings, on the low pass leading to Morzine with a very french feel to it, partly because of appetizing food and wine shops lining the main street. Alongside this charm, it also affords access to the huge Portes du Soleil ski area. The resort has a great selection of non-skiing activities to keep kids and families occupied, including nursery and kindergarten options.
Pretty, charming and unspoilt, Les Gets has something special to offer every visitor, with a variety of skiing to suit all levels, but where this magical resort truly excels is in the service that it provides to families. The resort is a proud owner of the ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ label, which means that the needs of younger guests have been carefully considered. Facilities include a medical service for minor injuries, and events, such as carpentry workshops where children are taught to make wooden models, are geared towards providing them with a safe and exciting stay.
The area of slopes it shares with Morzine is the most extensive local network in the region, and in some respects Les Gets is the better base for that shared area. If you have a car, you can quite easily access the main Portes du Soleil circuit by driving to the gondola at Ardent. If you don’t, the circuit is much more easily accessed from Morzine, with its quicker access to Avoriaz. The local pass saves a fair bit on a Portes du Soleil pass, and makes a lot of sense for many visitors. One factor to bear in mind when planning trips is that, alongside Morzine, Les Gets sits at a lower altitude than many resorts and as such suffers from a shorter season and deteriorating snow as spring arrives.

With 2.5 million days of ski lift tickets bought in a single season, La Plagne is one of the most popular ski resorts in the world. A French ski area on the alpine valley of Tarentaise in the Savoy region, La Plagne, together with nearby resorts Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry, makes up the vast ski area of Paradiski, the 2nd largest ski area in the world!
La Plagne is an intermediates and experts paradise, with a hugely diverse ski area spread over 140 miles of pistes. For experts, it has huge areas of off piste that don’t get skied out too quickly – an impressive feat given that La Plagne is recognized as the world’s most visited ski resort. This is before you consider the links to Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry via the impressive Vanoise Express to make up the the Paradiski area, a massive 264 miles ski and snowboard area area, served by no less than 128 lifts.
The lift network has gradually improved over recent years, increasing efficiency of access to the expansive ski area, with overcrowding no only an issue in peak weeks. With more than 70% of the terrain sitting above 6,560ft, La Plagne also offers extraordinarily reliable snow coverage.
La Plagne consists of no fewer than 11 separate ‘villages’. Each is a self-sufficient mini-resort, though they vary widely in character, with a massive variety of accommodation to suit every need. They divide into two groups: seven units purpose-built at altitude in a broad bowl, on or above the treeline; and four real villages, adapted and expanded for skiing, at lower altitude on the fringes of the area. The diversity of these villages also means there will always be options suitable for families. The only drawback of this separate village layout is the the resort lacks some cohesion that you would expect for a more unified resort.
As one of the resorts hosting events for the 1992 Albertville Olympics, La Plagne also hosts a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track.
A cable car from Montchavin links to Les Arcs via Peisey-Vallandry. Day trips by car to Val d’Isere-Tignes or the Trois Vallees resorts are possible.
